The Creative Habit
We will use class meetings to understand and reflect on the chapters of the book; we will use the time between meetings to work on the exercises that end each chapter, adapting them as needed to fit our own sensibilities. Participants must purchase Tharp's book "The Creative Habit", and have read the first two chapters before the first meeting.

Also required are a journal or notebook, and various materials you are likely to have on hand needed to complete the exercises. Participants will be expected to commit time outside of class to fully benefit from this seminar. Tharp summons her best work from a naked space.

I walk into a large white room. The room is lined with eight-foot-high mirrors. The exquisite creative writing teacher, Dorothea Brande — who agreed with Tharp that genius could be taught — believed writing demanded muscles that functioned in solitude.
It is only in such a space that we mine experience and memory and project imagination plus ideas. For that is where the true answers wait.
